Mi volt előbb, a tyúk vagy a tojás? Ez nem természettudományos kérdés, hanem egy régi példázat a kauzalitás filozófiai dilemmájára. Ha természettudományos szempontból akarunk válaszolni, akkor tudjuk, hogy a tojás volt előbb, mert a madarak az őshüllőktől származnak, akik tojással szaporodtak. De honnan számít valami madárnak vagy őshüllőnek? Lehet a természettudományos válasz sem kielégítő. Mi volt előbb, az Archeaopteryx vagy az Archeaopteryx tojás?

Which came first, the chicken or the egg? This isn't a scientific question, but an ancient parable of the philosophical dilemma of causality. If we want to answer from a scientific point of view, then we know that the egg came first, because birds are descended from ancient reptiles that reproduced by laying eggs. But how does something count as a bird or an ancient reptile? The scientific answer may not be satisfying either. Which came first, the Archaeopteryx or the Archaeopteryx egg?
